FLOW WITH JOE℠

Several years ago, for the first time in my life, I was adrift and felt I had no real purpose.

My two beautiful daughters were raised, had grown into strong, independent young women, my parents had passed away and I had closed my business.

Then the pandemic hit and life as we had known it was forever changed.

Fortunately I was well and safe, but felt trapped inside, binging Netflix and incessantly watching the nightly news.

At that moment I wanted to do something but felt completely helpless.

One night I saw an advertisement showing happy people walking on the beach and an announcer was asking viewers if they were depressed.

I thought to myself, of course I was depressed.

I was sitting in front of the TV, eating comfort food, watching people die from Covid 19, while others were fighting for their rights not to wear a mask.

Sadly, people were being hospitalized because they couldn’t breathe and others couldn’t breathe while wearing a mask.

Why?

I would continually ask myself.

I wanted to do something that helped and one morning I woke up feeling I had found a purpose.

I wanted to connect with people and inspire them to live happier and healthier lives by educating them on how to improve their breathing.

I am determined to make each and every breath count and to share that gift with others and with you. Breathing is what connects us.

I have come to realize that I might not change the world, but I would like the opportunity to help change your world.

MY STORY

I was born and raised in Wyoming and spent most of my summers on my family’s ranch.

I enjoyed exploring, wandering and climbing mountains.

I was the youngest of three sons and the huskiest of the three.

My dad was a heavy man and always told me there were two types of people, the greyhounds and the bulldogs - we were the bulldogs.

As I started school, I became aware that some of the kids looked different than me.

They looked fit and in shape.

Immediately, I wanted to be like them, look like them and be able to run fast just like them. However, like the bulldogs, who happen to be the worst breathers in the canine world, I was a mouth-breather.

My dad was a mouth-breather who had allergies, snored and suffered from Sleep Apnea.

Sadly, he developed high blood pressure and on his 60th birthday was tethered to an oxygen tank.

He took his final labored breath with the help of oxygen two days after his 71st birthday.

That experience and countless others motivated me to become active in Movember and I then made a conscious decision to change my health and “Change the Face of Men’s Health."

I too, suffer from allergies, a deviated septum and I snore.

In an attempt to be healthy, I started going to the gym and eating better. I adapted the mantra, “Younger Next Year."

Ten years later I read James Nester’s book “Breath”. Wow, what a game changer.

I started to practice breathing through my nose.

My workouts became easier, my mind became clearer and my allergies dissipated.

A few months later I met Dr. Belisa Vranich.

She informed me that I was a Paradoxical Breather.

I along with a lot of people began reversing the body's natural breathing pattern.

We should expand the diaphragm when we inhale and narrow the diaphragm on the exhale.

I learned I had been breathing wrong since I was a child.

As I started watching others, I could see that many of us have it all wrong.

It made me realize when someone becomes aware of their breath, it allows for the beginning of a change to occur.

EXPERIENCE THE FLOW

I am now motivated to inform, inspire and educate those who want to be healthy and breathe a little easier.

We all started life with our first breath; it filled our lungs and traveled deep into our bodies.

Many of us do not realize the subtle changes that happen to our breathing as we age. Here is the upside; our bodies will naturally remember how to breathe through the nose and into the deepest part of the lungs. Our bodies yearn to breathe that way.

“If Not Now, Then When”.

This March I will be turning 61 and will celebrate it by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.

I am honored and humbled to be part of this year’s Movember expedition.

My goal is to breathe through my nose and utilize my diaphragm with every step and breath on my journey.

My mission is to share what I have learned with anyone and everyone who wants to breathe a little easier.

I travel the world looking for interesting places to create content, meet people and pay my learning forward. It’s been quite a ride so far.

I can and will spread the good health and positivity I have experienced through the simple act of learning the powers of breath and breathing.

Here's to my journey and to all of your life journeys as well.

Dysfunctional breathing patterns have left us out of breath, stressed and overwhelmed.

By being aware of our breathing, we can make subtle changes to improve our breathing.

As you learn about better breathing patterns and techniques, you will find the ones that help you the most.

I CAN HELP YOU

ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A:

  • Gasper or Reverse Breather - sucks the belly in on the inhale and relaxes it on the exhale

  • Breath Holder - may hold breath periodically during the day and typically yawns or sighs a lot

  • Over Breather - exhale strong and inhale constricted or the reverse, exhale is short and inhale is long

  • No Haler - sipping in very little air and barely letting it out

Let's work together to achieve a breakthrough and get you breathing better.

Breath work enables us to expand our lungs, boost blood flow, improve circulation and experience better balance. While empowering us to sleep more soundly, run faster, swim deeper, achieve greater flexibility as well as live longer and healthier lives.
